Today my friend John Carriere send me the video he made about Dimitri " Surfing " his motorcycle. This video is a pure moment of pleasure ... enjoy. Frank
Harley Davidson, Crocker, Excelsior, Thor, Pierce Arrow, Indian, Sears, Reading, Flying Merkel, Henderson motorcycles and bicycles. Most are nearly a hundred years old and still running and riding. Legendary pieces of history and the forefathers of 2-wheeled racing events. It's only natural... if it has wheels and an engine... we HAVE to race it. Human 101. That's what we do!

This video was provided by Centerpunch of Prospectors MC. It was incorrectly labeled as the last race in 1957 because the last race was actually in 1958. It has been 52 years but this race is scheduled to run once again this coming December 4th and 5th, 2010. An official website will be launched this June with more details.

A host of racing legends will be competing at the Goodwood Revival festival this weekend - and MCN will be racing alongside them. MCN road testers Michael Neeves and Adam Child will both be piloting vintage machinery on track with Phil Read, Wayne Gardner, Scott Smart, Leon Haslam, Troy Corser and more. To prepare, they took the bikes they'll be riding for a little pre-race testing at Mallory.
In 1967, an idea for a desert race down the Baja Peninsula came together. Malcolm Smith and JN Roberts entered that first year, and against impossible odds rode a nearly stock Husqvarna to victory in the first ever Baja 1000. 40 years later, Malcolm and JN team up again, leading the Racing For Life Team in the 2007 Baja 1000 aboard a monsterous Husqvarna TC510...and things rarely go as planned in the Baja 1000.
This video includes the first full lap and some excerpts of the remaining laps. This class is a "bump up" for me against faster motorcycles. I had fun chasing a Rob North Triumph Triple - he had LOTS of motor on me, and was able to pull big leads on the high banks. I was better on the infield, and finally got around him by out-braking him on Turn 1. Fun stuff!
Throughout the 50's, the Catalina Grand Prix was one of the premier motorcycle races in the U.S. Once a year boats loaded with bikes crossed the channel to the small island off the California coast. Triumphs, Matchlesses, and BSA's took on the 10 mile course that ran through city streets, up into the hills, and through a golf course before heading back into Avalon to streets lined with screaming fans. This event made its mark in history and produced many stars. The Catalina Grand Prix glory days were way too short but oh so sweet.
